Ten years ago (2010), Glezen’s Power Equipment never thought battery products would be a staple of the consumer and commercial lines in the outdoor power equipment industry. We thought for the foreseeable future battery products belonged in hardware stores for the light duty end user only. Boy were we wrong. Little did we know the next decade would unveil incredibly capable battery packages. These machines support the industry leading power, reliability, and ergonomance. All of which sport low noise, low maintenance and extreme productivity.
For years we have scratched our heads at the sheer number of fuel related issues we see in our service division. Not to mention when they instituted the E10 fuels that sported ten percent ethanol. When that started we estimated that our service section was dealing with around 90% fuel delivery issues. We were seeing ethanol and water damage related to ethanol in machines as early as three weeks. The evolution of the lithium ion batteries were about to provide many answers to this problem.
When we show our battery equipment to a customer there are a few key points that we are talking about.
How long are you using the machine you are looking for?
This question helps us better understand what battery or battery combination that will work best for you. Do you need a commercial battery and charger or do you need the consumer lineup? For the most demanding end users there is a backpack battery that boasts a twelve hour run time. Run time and expectations are always important. Whether you are running the base model battery blower from Stihl or the commercial bike handle Husqvarna brushcutter, getting the right battery is key for your success. This also helps us know what charger you need. Since many chargers can fully charge a battery faster than they can be depleted, this is key in a purchase.
Are you worried about upfront cost or maintenance and fuel cost?
The upfront cost of battery products is more and more affordable every year. However, it still can surpass that of their petro counterparts. That is if you’re not considering the fuel cost for the life of the machine and the maintenance cost for the machine. Batteries themselves can be very pricey. We always recommend staying with the same brand product that you already have so you can utilize the battery in many different machines. As we discussed, fuel today can deteriorate fuel delivery systems as soon as three weeks. In battery products your biggest hassle is making sure the battery is charged. From there on out, everything about the battery product is easier. Plug the battery in, hit the power button, and get to work. There is no pulling a starter until your shoulder feels like it is going to fall off. In fact, many people who buy battery products say that by the time they get their gas machine running, they're too tired to do any work! Battery product is a quick easy solution to that.
Are you looking for convenience?
This sounds like a dumb question. Who isn’t looking to make mundane tasks easier? This is exactly what you get from battery products. The convenience is a great reason for purchasing battery products. Convenience is the number one reason we sell battery products. Customers love the push button ease that is brought to the table by these products. Not to mention the low noise, and general user friendliness.
Once you have answered these questions usually it transitions into a discussion about what battery and charger you will need. We will attach a PDF to help you figure that out.
